Trice Ward
Sensuous Ceramic Sculptures
Asheville, North Carolina

Trice Ward had her first experience with clay at age ten cleaning seams of slip-cast ceramics at a local shop in rural Minnesota.

During her four years in the art department in high school, she had her first opportunity to create something totally her own, then bisque fire and glaze it.  The seed was planted!

At this time, she was delighted to find out that the farmhouse where she was born was now home to potter, Jeff Oestreich (who was using the chicken coop as a studio).  A visit to the old home place and a few purchases later cemented the seed in place.

It was a few years later, though, that the seed got the opportunity to sprout.  Life events at that time took her in many different directions:  from driving bulldozers to motherhood to supporting computer systems for hospitals.  But the clay always called her back.

After moving from Florida to Hendersonville, North Carolina, instruction at Blue Ridge Community College got ideas flowing and she started honing her skills once more.

But the move to Asheville, North Carolina, in 2001 would prove to be a life changing decision.

Discovering Odyssey, Center for the Ceramic Arts, opened up a whole new world.  Professional ceramicists from all over the country shared their knowledge and greatly expanded her horizons.

She currently works out of her studio at Odyssey and enjoys the wonderful community of artists there and in the surrounding River District Arts area.
